Breast Augmentation is a recommended kind of surgery used to enlarge the size of a woman's breast. This kind of surgery is the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedure in recent times.
Procedures of Breast Augmentation
The surgical procedure for a single breast augmentation takes approximately one to two hours. Variations in the procedure include the incision type, implant material and implant pocket placement. The patient generally recovers within a week. Breast surgery for augmentation may be placed through various types of incisions:
- Inframammary : One of the most commonly practiced type of incision; there are maximum chances of precise dissection and implant placement. In this process the infra- mammary fold (IMF) below the breast receives the incision.
- Periareolar : An incision, in this procedure, is placed along the aerolar border. The inferior half or the medial half of the circumference of the areola is the location where the incision is placed.
- Transaxillary : This type of incision allows implants to be placed with no visible scars and the dissection on the breast. The medial portions of the armpit and the dissection tunnels receive the incision in this procedure. This kind of incision can be done with or without an endoscope.
- Transumbilical (TUBA) : A less common technique in this procedure the navel and dissection tunnels superiorly receives the incision. Endoscope may or may not be used in this type of surgery during the blunt dissection of the surgical portion.
- Transabdominoplasty (TABA) : This procedure is similar to TUBA, where the incision is done through the abdomen to place the implants into bluntly dissected pockets. This procedure happens as the patient would simultaneously undergo an abdomoniplasty procedure.
